The apparent total demolition of the car below didn't square
with the Washington Post's account of the accident. On inquiry in
a car-buff newsgroup, I learned that this is what a car
might look like after rescue workers had cut away the
body to rescue trapped occupants. So this image decorates
the story nicely but confuses rather than clarifies it.
The photo below seems to be of a long-after-the-fact
situation similar to that
described above, except that here we're looking at part
of a car body instead of the chassis.
